Matariki Kites

We have been making Matariki kites. We learnt about warm and cool colours. We read a book called the Seven Kites of Matariki and then made our own kites. We used dye and blended the colours together so there weren't any hard lines. We then chose silhouettes that reflect the time of Matariki like a man and a woman harvesting and whānau spending time together.

  1. Kia ora Room 5,
I saw these kites as you were making them and love seeing them completed and on display. They are really colourful. The video is great to see them as they look like they are taking off into the sky.
Matariki is such a special time for New Zealand. Did you do anything else for Matariki at school or at home with your whānau?

It took us 4 days to make our kites because we had to wait for the dye to dry and it took us a while to cut them out. How long did it take you to make your kite?
